January 16. Swearing-in ceremony of the President of Uzbekistan was held on 16 January at the joint session of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis in Tashkent.

Members of the Cabinet, heads of national organizations, members of the Central Election Commission and judges of the Constitutional Court, representatives of diplomatic missions and mass media participated in the session.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov made a speech at the joint session.

Today, during these solemn minutes, fr om this high tribune, I would like to once again assure you and the people of Uzbekistan that I will mobilize all my efforts, knowledge and experience for full implementation of all priority tasks, outlined in my election campaign,” the head of the state said.

May 9. Uzbekistan marks Memory and Honor Day on May 9.

In Uzbekistan at the initiative of President Islam Karimov, May 9 was declared the Day of Memory and Honor.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov laid a wreath to the Monument of Grieving Mother. President has rendered a tribute of memory of thousand compatriots who gave their life in World War II.

July 22. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received US Ambassador to Tashkent Richard Norland at Oqsaroy residence on 22 July.

August 8-9. On August 8th, with invitation of the Chairman of Peoples Republic of China Hu Jintao, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Beijing and participated in the opening ceremony of XXIX Summer Olympic Games.

On August 9, Islam Karimov met with the chairman of Peoples Republic of China Hu Jintao. The head of our state said that Uzbekistan highly appreciates current development of bilateral relations.

Naming Islam Karimov as his friend, Hu Jintao expressed gratitude for the support by Uzbekistan of China in political and humanitarian spheres.

August 27-28. As has been reported earlier by the Information Agency “Jahon” referring to the Uzbekistan National News Agency, on August 27 this year the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov left for the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan Dushanbe.

The same day the Uzbek Leader arrived in Dushanbe to participate at the meeting of Council of heads of member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon met the top-level guest at the Dushanbe Airport.

September 1. Prime minister of Russia Vladimir Putin arrived in Uzbekistan on a working visit on 1 September.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov welcomed the head of the Russian government at the Tashkent airport.

September 5. On September 5 this year the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated at the Summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the capital of the Russian Federation Moscow, according to the Uzbekistan National News Agency.

September 11. On September 11, 2008 the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived in the Republic of Azerbaijan with official visit, the agencies reported.

The visit of the Uzbek Leader to Baku began with a welcoming ceremony in Zagulba residence. Islam Karimov and Ilham Aliev stepped up to the podium. The state anthems of both countries were played. Then the two presidents observed the honorable guard lined up in honor of the high-level guest.

Then the both presidents held tête-à-tête talks.

October 5. President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers arrived in Uzbekistan with a state visit on 5 October on the invitation of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

October 9-10. On October 9-10 President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Bishkek, wh ere he took part in the meetings of the CIS Council of the Heads of State and the Interstate Council of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC), as well as the Summit of Heads of States of Central Asia.

October 15. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received credentials from new ambassadors of Malaysia (Abdul Aziz Bin Harun), Iran (Muhammad Keshovarzoda), Israel (Hilel Newman) and Belarus (Igor Sokol) on 15 October.

October 22. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received UAE minister for Cabinet of Ministers issues and chairman of Dubai Holding Muhammad Abdulla Al-Gargavi at Oqsaroy residence on 22 October.

November 3. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Cesar Maia, mayor or Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 3 November in Tashkent. The sides talked about development of cooperation between the two states.

November 5. President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov started his state visit to Uzbekistan on 5 November.

Relations with Bulgaria occupy a special place in the foreign policy of Uzbekistan. The two countries are reliable partners successfully cooperating on the international arena.

November 16. The Prime minister of Malaysia Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi arrived with an official visit to Uzbekistan on 16 November.

On the following day, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and Malaysian Prime minister held face-to-face talks. They considered issues of development of bilateral political relations, expansion of economic and humanitarian cooperation, as well as regional and international issues.

Islam Karimov and Abdullah Badawi also discussed cooperation within ASEAN and OIC, as well as the situation in Afghanistan.

25 November. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the ambassador of Russia Farit Muhametshin, who is completing his diplomatic mission to the country, on 25 November.
