January 22. At the invitation of President Islam Karimov, President of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev is on state visit in Uzbekistan. President Karimov meets the distinguished guest at the airport of Samarkand.

January 23. In Durmen residence, official welcoming ceremony is hosted in honor of Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev. During a tet-a-tet meeting of Presidents Karimov and Medvedev, the sides exchange views on a wide range of issues concerning Uzbek-Russian relations as well as regional and international topics. Having signed a number of bilateral agreements, the heads of state travel to the Independence Square in Tashkent. Here the Russian leader lays wreath to the Monument of Independence and Humanism, symbol of our freedom, bright future and noble aspirations. Dmitriy Medvedev also meets with faculty and students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

February 3. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov receives credentials fr om Ann Boti, Syed Manal Shah Alquadri, and Robert Kopecky, who have been appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, respectively, of the Swiss Confederation, Republic of India, and the Czech Republic in Uzbekistan.

Head of nation congratulates the diplomats assigned to honorable and high-ranking positions, and stresses that Uzbekistan’s cooperation with these countries has lately been expanding.

February 4. President Islam Karimov attends a special meeting of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Moscow.

February 17. In Oqsaroy, President Karimov meets with Commander of U.S. Central Command, David Petraeus.

February 24. At the invitation of President Islam Karimov, Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrives in Uzbekistan on official visit. The heads of state attend a grand concert of Uzbek and Turkmen masters of arts at Tashkent’s Turkistan Palace.

February 25. In Durmen residence, official welcoming ceremony is held in honor of Turkmen President. Islam Karimov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during talks tet-a-tet, discuss a wide range of issues concerning Uzbek-Turkmen relations, and exchange views on regional and international matters of common interest. Following the negotiations, the heads of state ink a number of joint agreements. The two leaders visit the Independence Square in Tashkent, and President Berdimuhamedov lays wreath to the Monument of Independence and Humanism, symbol of our freedom, bright future and noble aspirations. Islam Karimov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attend the opening ceremony of Turkmenistan National Exhibition. Uzbek and Turkmen Presidents formally open a new building of Turkmenistan’s embassy in Tashkent.

February 27. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov meets with Shigeo Katsu, Vice President of World Bank for Europe and Central Asia.

“Uzbekistan highly values cooperation with the World Bank, - said the head of our nation. - We consider the World Bank a leading international financial institution that facilitates the implementation of reforms and economic growth in the world.”

March 31. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov meets with Ahmed Bin Abdunabi Macki, Minister of National Economy - Deputy Chairman of the Council for Financial Affairs and Energy Resources of the Sultanate of Oman.

April 3. President of Uzbekistan exchanges views on current state and prospects of Uzbek-Kazakh relations with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov, in Oqsaroy.

April 28. President Islam Karimov attends the meeting of leaders of founding members of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

May 11. At Durmen residence, official welcoming ceremony takes place in honor of Lee Myung-bak, President of the Republic of Korea, who is on state visit in Uzbekistan at the invitation of President Islam Karimov. The heads of state deliberate on the current state and prospects of Uzbek-South Korean relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest. Following the talks, Presidents Karimov and Lee sign a joint statement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea. In the afternoon, the two leaders visit the Independence Square in Tashkent and President Lee lays wreath to the Monument of Independence and Humanism, symbol of our liberty, bright future and splendid aspirations. Presidents visit the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. The South Korean leader meets with faculty and students, gets familiarized with the learning process. President Lee Myung-Bak is awarded honorary doctor of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

May 12. Presidents Islam Karimov and Lee Myung-bak visit the city of Samarkand.

May 26. President of Uzbekistan leaves for Brazil on official visit. En route to Brazil, the Head of nation meets with King Juan Carlos of Spain in Madrid. During the talks, the sides exchange views on bilateral relations and international issues of mutual interest.

May 27. President Islam Karimov arrives in the Federative Republic of Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. An official welcoming ceremony is hosted in honor of the distinguished guest.

May 28. Presidents Islam Karimov and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva hold talks wh ere they exchange views on boosting bilateral relations, regional and international issues of common interest. Following the negotiations, a joint declaration is inked between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Federative Republic of Brazil.

May 29. President of Uzbekistan arrives in Rio de Janeiro and meets with Eduardo Paes, mayor of the city. President Karimov and Mayor Paes discuss cooperation between Uzbekistan and Brazil in the field of urban development, urban infrastructure, protection and improvement of historical monuments, travel industry, direct contacts between Uzbek and Brazilian cities. Cooperation agreement is penned between Tashkent and Rio de Janeiro. President Karimov visits the largest stadium in the world – “Maracana”.

June 3. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov discusses the state of bilateral cooperation with Richard Norland, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Uzbekistan. Regional security, trade and economic partnership, and promising projects in humanitarian and other areas are talked over.

June 4. In Oqsaroy, President of Uzbekistan exchanges views on trade, economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Assaf, Saudi Minister of Finance.

June 5. President Islam Karimov meets with Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in Oqsaroy, to discuss economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Bahrain.

June 11. In Oqsaroy, President of Uzbekistan meets with Farit Muhametshin, Special Representative of President of the Russian Federation for relations with CIS countries. Uzbek-Russian bilateral and multilateral cooperation within Commonwealth of Independent States is discussed in addition to such topical issues as rational use of water and energy resources in the region.

June 14. President Islam Karimov attends session of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Moscow, Russia.

June 15. President of the Republic attends annual summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Heads of SCO member states exchange views on mitigating and weathering the impact of global financial and economic downturn as well as bolstering the security in the region. President Karimov also meets with President Hu Jintao of the People’s Republic of China.

June 18. President Islam Karimov exchanges views on boosting the ties between Uzbekistan and the International Monetary Fund with IMF’s Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

June 23. In Oqsaroy, President of Uzbekistan meets with Pierre Lellouche, Special Representative of France for Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Head of nation and the French envoy discuss possibilities of expanding the Uzbek-French cooperation in bolstering security and stability in Central Asia and addressing the situation in Afghanistan.

June 28. President Islam Karimov meets with Vice Premier of State Council of China Li Keqiang in Oqsaroy.

“Your visit underscores time and again the common aspiration of our countries to expand mutual cooperation. We very much welcome the enhancement of Uzbek-Chinese relations”, - the Head of state said.

A wide range of bilateral issues as well as other topics concerning regional and international development are discussed at the occasion.

July 3. President of Uzbekistan exchanges views on boosting Uzbek-Spanish cooperation with Miguel Angel Moratinos, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain.

July 13. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov meets with William Burns, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. Uzbek-American relations and other issues of common interest are examined during the conversation.

July 31. President of Uzbekistan attends informal summit of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic. A wide range of pressing issues is deliberated during extensive negotiations, including those concerning the security of CSTO member states, improving the organization and raising its effectiveness. In addition, further efforts to counter such contemporary threats and challenges as international terrorism, transnational organized crime, drug trafficking and other topics are discussed.

August 5. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov receives credentials from Georgiy Kublashvili and Rupert Joy, appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, respectively, of Georgia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Accepting the credentials, the Head of state congratulates the diplomats on their appointment to honorable and high-ranking position, and wishes success in their mission. President Karimov welcomes expansion of mutual relations between Uzbekistan and the two nations.

August 10. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov meets with Special Envoy of President of the Republic of Korea Ahn Sang-soo.

The Leader of nation stresses the consistent progress in relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea in many spheres.

August 18. President of Uzbekistan meets with Commander of U.S. Central Command, David Petraeus, in Oqsaroy. The head of state and the American general exchange opinions on prospects of Uzbek-U.S. relations and other issues of mutual interest.

August 29. Uzbek-American cooperation and other issues of common interest are discussed in Oqsaroy between President Islam Karimov and Richard Norland, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Uzbekistan.

September 11. In Oqsaroy, President of Uzbekistan meets with Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Director of SCO Regional Anti-terrorist Structure (RATS) Executive Committee, and participants of session of SCO Council of National Coordinators.

As Head of state stresses, the SCO for its eight years of existence has turned into an influential international organization that has proved essential in shaping regional and global security architecture. During this period, much has been done to advance and consolidate cooperation in political, economic, socio-humanitarian spheres, with tangible steps toward implementing major policy goals and tasks facing the Organization.

October 4-5. President of Uzbekistan pays state visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The Sultan of Oman hosts an official welcoming ceremony in honor of President Islam Karimov. Leaders of Uzbekistan and Oman meet to exchange views on advancement of bilateral relations, expansion of trade and economic cooperation, as well as pressing issues of regional and international nature of common interest. A joint declaration is signed as the outcome of state visit of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Sultanate of Oman. The parties agree to open embassies in Tashkent and Muscat.

October 8. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov meets with Micheline Calmy-Rey, Federal Councillor, Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

Head of state notes that Uzbek-Swiss relations have been intensively progressing and that the meeting constitutes a good opportunity to exchange views on various issues of bilateral cooperation.

October 12. In Oqsaroy, President of Uzbekistan meets with Robert Blake, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs.

President Karimov says Uzbek-American cooperation has covered various spheres and a wide range of international issues including combating transnational threats, bolstering regional security and stability.

Promotion of Uzbek-U.S. relations and other topics of common interest are deliberated during the conversation.

October 23. President Islam Karimov meets with Shri S.M. Krishna, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, in Oqsaroy. 
  
Welcoming the guest, the Head of state notes that relations between Uzbekistan and India, premised on historical and cultural closeness of the two peoples, have been on gradual progress. Boosting cooperation between the two nations and other issues of common interest are discussed in the course of talks.

December 2. In Oqsaroy, President of Uzbekistan meets a group of U.S. scholars headed by S.Frederick Starr, Chairman of Central Asia-Caucasus Institute of Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies.

As the Head of state notes, the trip by prominent American political analysts constitutes a good opportunity for them to get closely acquainted with the life of the republic, the level of economic, educational and academic development, and the potential of the country in general. During the meeting, a range of issues concerning regional security and other topics of common interest are discussed.

December 13-14. President Islam Karimov is in Turkmenistan on official visit at the invitation of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov. Official welcoming ceremony in honor of Uzbekistan’s leader is hosted at the palace of Turkmenistan’s President. The heads of state hold talks tet-a-tet. An Uzbek-Turkmen joint statement is inked at the end of bilateral negotiations. In Ashgabat, Islam Karimov also holds talks with Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China, during which the sides exchange views on issues of advancing the ties between Uzbekistan and China as well as cooperation within international organizations. On the second day of visit, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan attends a launching ceremony of the new international gas pipeline in the town of Turkmenabat.

December 22. In Oqsaroy, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

At the talk, promotion of mutual cooperation as well as a range of other issues of common interest is discussed.

December 23. In Oqsaroy, President Islam Karimov accepts credentials from Wolfgang Neuen, Muhammad Vahid al-Hasan, Ramdan Mekdud, and Vladimir Tyurdenev, who have been appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Federal Republic of Germany, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and Russian Federation, respectively.

December 28. President Islam Karimov meets with Daniyar Usenov, Prime Minister of Kyrgyz Republic, in Oqsaroy.
