January 24. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Brussels at the invitation of European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. During his visit, President Karimov met with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, the European Commissioner for Energy Guenther Oettinger, and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

February 8-10. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov traveled to Japan on official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Naoto Kan. The leader of Uzbekistan met with the Emperor of Japan Akihito, Prime Minister Naoto Kan, chairpersons of Japan’s upper and lower houses of parliament Takeo Nishioka and Takahiro Yokomichi, Minister of Foreign Affairs S.Maehara, the leadership and members of the parliamentary friendship leagues Japan Democratic Party-Uzbekistan and Japan Liberal Democratic Party-Uzbekistan.

February 18. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan met with official delegation of the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce headed by its Chairwoman Carolyn Lamm. Carolyn Lamm announced during the meeting that the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce assigns an honorable award to President Islam Karimov for securing a steadfast transition of Uzbekistan’s economy to an effectively run market economy.

February 25. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov chaired at the Oqsaroy the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for the Development of Children’s Sports of Uzbekistan.

March 18. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with member of State Council and Central Military Council of the People’s Republic of China, Defense Minister Liang Guanglie at the Oqsaroy.

March 23. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with Honeywell Corporation officials headed by Chairman and CEO David Cote.

March 24. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with Yousuf Raza Gilani, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who was on official visit in Uzbekistan.

March 29. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Knut Vollebaek at the Oqsaroy.

March 31. At the Oqsaroy, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received credentials from Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait, the Republic of Tajikistan, Ukraine, and the Republic of Poland in Uzbekistan – Halaf Mijbal Buzahir, Muzaffar Huseynov, Yuri Savchenko, and Marian Pzchesdzetski, respectively.

April 19-20. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov paid a state visit to the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of President Hu Jintao of the PRC. More than 25 interstate, intergovernmental and interagency documents inked during the visit. Agreements provide for the implementation of a number of investment projects worth over 5 billion US dollars.

April 22. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Surkhandarya region to have a first-hand review of socioeconomic reforms and creative work in progress in the province.

May 5. At the invitation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Uzbekistan on official visit. Following the negotiations, the heads of two states penned Uzbek-Turkmen Joint Statement. The two governments signed agreement on setting up trade representations on a reciprocal basis, agreement on scientific and technological cooperation and a range of other documents.

May 6. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov traveled to Bukhara.

May 9. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov laid wreath to the Monument of Mourning Mother and paid tribute to the memory of thousands of fellow countrymen and women who perished in the Second World War. On the same day, President Islam Karimov traveled to Alisher Navoi Uzbekistan National Library’s new building to review the ongoing construction works there.

May 12. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with member of the Congress of Deputies, lower house of Spanish parliament, former minister of foreign affairs Miguel Angel Moratinos.

May 17-18. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov paid a state visit to the Republic of India. During the visit, leaders of the two countries discussed at length the current state and prospects of bilateral relations along with an extensive range of regional and global issues that directly affect the interests of our two nations. A collection of documents were inked to cardinally augment economic and investment cooperation in fuel energy, information technologies, textiles, pharmaceuticals, banking and trade.

May 20. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan met with Vagit Alekperov, President of Lukoil, at the Oqsaroy.

May 23. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan met with Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark at the Oqsaroy.

May 31. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with Denis McDonough, Deputy National Security Adviser to President of the United States of America.

June 1. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with acting chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Azubalis.

June 13-14. On the invitation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, President of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev was in Uzbekistan with a working visit. President Karimov met with President Medvedev at the Kuksaroy country complex.

June 14-15. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan traveled to Kazakhstan to attend the regular session of Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Council of Heads of State. The heads of member states extensively exchanged views on the current state and prospective aspects of interaction within SCO along with pressing issues of regional and international politics.

June 22-23. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Kashkadarya region to familiarize with the progress being made in socio-economic reforms and improvement works on the ground.

June 28. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with Mikhail Dmitriev, Director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.

July 5. President Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy received credentials from newly appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in the Republic of Uzbekistan – Jiang Xiao of the People’s Republic of China, George Krol of the United States of America, Le Mang Luan of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Anvarbek Mokeev of Kyrgyz Republic.

July 11. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov spoke by the phone.

August 23-24. President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-Bak has was in Uzbekistan with state visit on the invitation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

August 25. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with US Republican Senator from South Carolina, member of several influential Senate committees Lindsey Graham.

August 27. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov attended the opening ceremony of Sharq Taronalari 8th international music festival in the city of Samarkand.

August 28. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov traveled to the new joint venture designed to manufacture automobile engines and the new local-flight air terminal in Tashkent to familiarize with ongoing efforts in these two facilities.

August 31. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov took part in the occasion at the Shahidlar Khotirasi memorial complex to pay tribute to those who fell for freedom and independence of the Motherland.

August 31. The Alisher Navoi National Park of Uzbekistan hosted festive events dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on the 20th anniversary of independence.

September 9. President Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy received credentials from newly appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in the Republic of Uzbekistan – Yurai Sivacek of the Slovak Republic, Abdurahman bin Abdullah bin Abdurahman al-Shaeh of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Anumula Gitesh Sarma of the Republic of India, and Riccardo Manara of the Republic of Italy.

September 19. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with David Constable, chief executive officer of South Africa’s Sasol, and Dato Shamsul Azhar Abbas, president of Malaysia’s Petronas.

September 22. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with Wu Bango, Chairman of the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of China.

September 28. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of the United States of America Barack Obama spoke on the phone.

September 30 – October 1. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov traveled to Namangan and Andijan regions to review the course of socio-economic reforms and the resourceful beautification works in progress in these parts of the country.

October 3. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with Prime Minister of Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguen Tan Zung.

October 11. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Marc Grossman and Germany’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Michael Steiner.

October 11. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Ferghana region to evaluate the course of socio-economic reforms, innovative and beautification works being undertaken in this part of the country.

October 22. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who was on working visit in our country.

November 6-7. On the invitation of President Islam Karimov, President of the Republic of Hungary Pal Schmitt was in Uzbekistan on official visit.

November 16. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov traveled to the Ma’rifat Markazi (Center of Enlightenment) just erected in the city of Tashkent. This enlightenment center became an organic part of single architectural composition encompassing such matchless buildings constructed in the center of our capital city during independence years as the Youth Creativity Palace, the Visual Arts Gallery, and the Poytakht Business Center. Adjacent to the nation’s central plaza, the Mustaqillik square, this area is distinct with its exceptional landscaping design.

November 26. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with Director General of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan at the Oqsaroy.

November 26. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy met with academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Leo Bokeria, director of Russia’s Bakulev Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery.

November 30. Kashkadarya regional Kengash (Council) of People’s Deputies convened for a special session. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov spoke at the meeting.

December 7. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy presented the high awards of the Motherland to a group of our compatriots.

December 7. The Uzbekistan Palace of International Forums hosted an official session dedicated to the 19th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event was attended by government and public figures, representatives of academia, culture and arts as well as general public of our country, along with those of embassies of foreign nations and international organizations accredited in Uzbekistan. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov delivered a keynote speech at the occasion.

December 20. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov attended summits of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in the city of Moscow.
