January 25. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov held face-to-face talks with the President of Singapore Sellapan Ramanathan at Istana residence here on Thursday.

The two leaders discussed the current state and perspectives of the Uzbekistan-Singapore relations and some international issues. They confirmed mutual interest in strengthening bilateral relations.

President of Uzbekistan stressed that the two nations had similar views on most international problems, which was a good foundation for cooperation.

Other signed documents include the intergovernmental air communication agreement, the memorandum on bilateral consultations between the foreign ministries, the agreement on cooperation in standardization, metrology and accreditation, and the memorandum of understanding between the Uzbek Commerce and Industry Chamber and Singapore Business Federation.

February 21. New ambassadors of Kuwait, Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan presented credentials to President Islam Karimov on 21 February.

Accepting credentials from Adyl Muhammad Khasan Hayat, Shakhril Sabaruddin and Aziz Madmarov, respectively, Islam Karimov wished them success in the missions they are starting in the country.

Saying the relations with the countries the diplomats represent were developing steadily, President of Uzbekistan expressed hope they would make a worthy contribution to expansion of bilateral cooperation.

February 27. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Ambassador of South Korea Moon Hayong at Oqsaroy residence on 27 February.

During the meeting President Islam Karimov handed over the Dustlik (Friendship) order to the Ambassador Moon Hayong. The award has been given to the diplomat for his contribution in strengthening relations and in expansion of the scientific, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two nations.

March 02. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Minister of International Cooperation of Arab Republic of Egypt Fayza Aboul Naga in residence Oksaroy.

During the meeting Islam Karimov and Egyptian minister discussed the issues concerning the further expansion and strengthening of cooperation between Republic Uzbekistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and better use of available potential of two countries.

March 07. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov in the Oqsaroy residence.

“Your visit is a proof fast developing relations between our countries in all spheres of life,” said Islam Karimov.

March 14. Uzbek President Islam Karimov received the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz at presidential residence Oqsaroy on Wednesday, March 14.

At a meeting in the residence Oqsaroy, sides talked about the further developing and strengthening the cooperation between Republic of Uzbekistan and Islamic Republic Pakistan in areas such as trade, humanitarian spheres, culture, and also in fighting the international terrorism.

March 19. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Slovak Republic Jan Kubis on March 19 in Oqsaroy residence.

April 12. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Spain`s Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos.

April 17 - 19. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will pay an official visit to Egypt during 17-19 April on the invitation of this country’s President Muhammad Hosni Mubarak.

After the negotiations, Uzbekistan and Egypt adopted a Joint Communiqu. Also signed were the intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in fighting organized crime and terrorism, as well as training judges and exchange of experience in legal field.

The sides inked cooperation protocols in the fields of information and cultural cooperation in 2007-2010, as well as memorandums on understanding between the Uzbek Culture and Sports Ministry and Egypt’s National Sports Council, Uzbek Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Ministry and Egypt’s International Cooperation Ministry, Trade and Commerce Chamber of Uzbekistan and Commerce Chambers Federation of Egypt, Uzinfoinvest Agency and Investments and Free Zones Direction of Egypt, Uzbek Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Certification and Egypt Standardization and Quality Organization, as well as the central banks of the two countries.

April 20. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received visiting Foreign Minister of Lithuania Petras Vaitieakunas on 20 April at Oqsaroy residence in Tashkent.

During the meeting, the current state and perspectives of bilateral relations, expansion of economic ties and regional and international problems were discussed.

The two states are developing political cooperation, including their dialogue and interaction within international organizations. Uzbekistan and Lithuania consider cooperation in fighting terrorism, extremism, drug traffic, arms smuggling and translational organized crime important.

April 26. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich on 26 April in Tashkent.

June 06. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Mohammed Al-Sabah on June 6 in Oqsaroy residence.

During the meeting in Oqsaroy residence the sides considered the issues on further development of wide spectrum of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Kuwait.

June 07. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kingdom of Bahrain Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed al Khalifa on June 7 in Oqsaroy residence.

June 08. Ambassadors of Korea Republic and United Kingdom of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland delivered credentials to President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oksaroy Residence in Tashkent.

June 09 - 10. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov left for Saint Petersburg to participate in the informal summit of the CIS leaders.

President Karimov arrived in Saint Petersburg to participate in the informal summit of CIS countries. He met Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 9.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated in the informal summit of CIS leaders in Saint Petersburg.

Heads of CIS countries reaffirmed their commitment to reform of the CIS. The summit gathered all 12 presidents.

Islam Karimov also participated in the events of the 11th International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg.

July 03. President Islam Karimov received the delegation of Arab Coordination Group led by the President of the Islamic Development Bank Ahmad Muhammad Ali.

July 04. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the First Deputy Prime Minister Russian Federation Sergey Ivanov in the Oqsaroy residence.

Uzbekistan and Russian Federation are cooperating in the frameworks of the Eurasian Economic Community and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

July 09. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Minister of Finance of China Jin Renqing on July 9 in the Oqsaroy residence in Tashkent.

July 11. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Ambassador of Japan Yuichi Kusumoto at Oqsaroy residence.

July 26. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov in the Oqsaroy residence.

President Islam Karimov said relations between two countries are developing.

August 10. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received head of the UNESCO office in the country Michael Barry Lane on 10 August at Oqsaroy residence.

Cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO is developing steadily, and Michael Barry Lane has played a great role in this, the head of the state said.

“We highly value developing cooperation with UNESCO and the support this organization provides to Uzbekistan’s initiatives,” the President said.

Islam Karimov awarded Michael Barry Lane, who is completing his mission in the country, with a Do`stlik (Friendship) order for the great contribution in development of Uzbekistan-UNESCO cooperation.

August 13. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on 13 August in Tashkent.

Welcoming the guest, the head of the state said: “Your visit and participation in the international conference on Contribution of Uzbekistan to development of Islamic civilization makes the event even more important.”

August 14. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa at Oqsaroy residence in Tashkent.

“We know and respect you as one of the leading political figures not only in the Arab, but in the whole world,” Islam Karimov said. “Participation of the Arab League in the international conference ‘Contribution of Uzbekistan in development of Islamic civilization’ will serve to further opening of Uzbekistan’s role in development of Islamic civilization”

August 14. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received President of the UNESCO General Conference Musa Bin Jaafar Bin Hassan at Oqsaroy residence in Tashkent on 14 August 2007.

Islam Karimov expressed satisfaction with the development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO.

“Announcement of Tashkent by ISESCO as the capital of Islamic culture in 2007 is a pleasant fact not only for the people of Uzbekistan, but also for all our friends in foreign countries,” the head of the state said. “Your participation in the international conference ‘Contribution of Uzbekistan to development of Islamic civilization’ makes this forum even more important and influential.”

August 14. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met participants of the international conference “Uzbekistan’s contribution to development of Islamic civilization” at Oqsaroy residence.

General Secretary of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Arab League General Secretary Amr Moussa, President of UNESCO General Conference Musa Bin Jaafar Bin Hassan, Kuwait Education and Higher Education Minister Nuriya al-Subih and Chairman of the Spiritual Management of Muslims of Kazakhstan mufti Absattar Derbesali participated in the meeting.

They said Uzbekistan played an important role in development of Islamic culture and science, and that the Uzbek people had made a great contribution to the Islamic civilization. They also praised the level of organization of the international conference.

August 15. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on 15 August to participate in the session of the Council of heads of states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

On this day, President Islam Karimov held talks with President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao, and they discussed the state and perspectives of bilateral relations, as well as cooperation within the SCO.

August 29. President Islam Karimov received deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, foreign minister Rashid Meredov, who is on a visit to Uzbekistan, on 29 August.

Welcoming the Turkmen official, President Karimov said his visit was a sign of developing relations between the two neighboring countries.

December 7. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov handed over awards to a group of citizens at the Oqsaroy residence on 7 December. 
The awards were given in accordance with the decrees of the President issued on the eve of the 16th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence. 
The receivers of the honorary titles, orders and medals represent various spheres, including industry, science, culture and arts, education, healthcare, sports, army and law-enforcement bodies.
