July. In Cambridge UK there was an exhibition dedicated to the 2500th anniversary of Bukhara and Khiva.
August 26-September 1. In Samarkand the Shark taronalari music festival was held, with 13 countries participating. The grand prize went to Simara Imanova from Azerbaijan. First prize went to Munodjat Iulchiev (Uzbekistan) and Shainu Khurana (India). A conference sponsored by UNESCO "Musical art of the peoples of the East" was held.
September. The publisher Uzbekistan markasi published stamps on the Great Silk Road, dedicated to the 2500th anniversaries of Bukhara and Khiva.
September. In Tashkent the exhibition "Aral Sea in my fate" was held.
October 19. Bukhara celebrated its 2500th anniversary with greetings from President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

July 1. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov gave the Olympic museum the gold medal he received from the Asian Olympic council for his contribution to raising physical education and sport in Uzbekistan.
July. Uzbek rowers took part in the competition in Moscow and won a gold medal in the 200m race.
August 12-16. The 18th rural young women's spartakiad was held in Namangan and Kasansai.

September. Azamat Kalandarov from Termez took part in the London karate tournament and won first prize.

December. The first patients at the new rehabilitation center for Chernobyl victims began treatment in Navoi.
