Foreign policy. 1996 year


January 4. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the UK foreign minister Malcolm Rifkind.  

March 20. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Indian foreign minister Pranaba Mukerjee who brought President Islam Karimov a letter from Indian Prime minister Narasimha Rao.


April 5. The meeting of the prime ministers of countries in the Agreement to create a uniform economic space in Central Asia was held in Tashkent, including Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.  

April 21-24. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov paid an official visit to France and met with President Jacque Chirac. He took part in the executive council of UNESCO and the Week of Uzbekistan in Paris conference"Growth of science, culture and education in the epoch of the Temurides," dedicated to the 660th anniversary of Amir Temur. He visited Lyons.  

May 17. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov took part in the 20th session of the CIS heads of state council in Moscow.  

May 27-28. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Azerbaijan on an official visit. The leaders signed an Agreement on friendship and cooperation. Other documents were signed, including on defense of foreign investments, double tax avoidance, air transport, transport, tourism and customs. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received an honorary doctorate.  

May 28-29. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov paid an official visit to Georgia. The leaders signed a Declaration on cooperation and 15 other documents, including how to create financial-industrial groups, air transport, cooperation in customs, a Convention on double tax avoidance, and an Agreement on legal issues.  

June 23-28. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited the USA and met with President Bill Clinton on June 25.  

July 2-3. Chinese chairman Tsian Tszemin paid an official visit to Uzbekistan.  

August 14. The seminar "Social politics, programs and projects" was held in Tashkent, organized by the Institute of economic development of the WB. The first part was held in Moscow, the second in Washington, and the third 2-week part in Tashkent, including representatives from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.  

September 25. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received a Japanese delegation headed by national oil corporation head Kunio Komatsu.  

October 21. The fourth meeting of Turkic states including Azerbaijan President Geidar Aliev, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbaev, Kyrgyzstan President Askar Akaev, Turkish President Suleiman Demirel, Turkmenistan President Saparmurad Niiazov and Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov took place in Tashkent.They discussed development cooperation, humanitarian and trade-economic relations, and celebration of historical dates. The Tashkent declaration on Turkic states was signed.
